Acquia Cloud is looking for senior software engineers to help build its cloud platform as a service on distributed systems and cluster computing technologies. Acquia Cloud is a enterprise grade Platform as a Service (PaaS) hosted entirely on Amazon Web Services. We are one of AWS’s largest customers (running 8000+ EC2 instances) and our platform receives tens of billions of origin hits monthly, and powering some of the largest websites on the Internet. 
 
The Distributed Systems Cloud Engineer will join a team enhancing the Acquia Cloud platform with additional automation and elastic scaling capabilities, as well as performing deep kernel level development on containers, capabilities jails and more. Although we publicly provide scalable Drupal (PHP) hosting, on the backend we operate a polyglot platform running everything from PHP to Ruby Python and Java and interacting with systems from MySQL to Cassandra.
 
An ideal candidate is one that has experience building resilient distributed systems, is passionate about Open Source software, has experience performance tuning Linux clusters at scale, and is not afraid to hack on any level of the stack (from the Kernel to Containers to Apache modules to custom daemons). Qualifications:
  • Experienced Systems level architect for highly concurrent and distributed systems
  • Strong familiarity with network protocols: the lower layers like IP, TCP, and UDP; and the higher layers like HTTP; 
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills 
  • Strong scripting language experience (Ruby, Python, PHP, etc.)
  • 3-5 years experience in Linux configuration and configuration management
  • 5-7 years experience in Linux performance tuning (e.g. scheduler, interrupts, memory, i/o)
  • Debugging skills at the kernel and/or network level
Bonuses:
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services
  • Experience with Linux Kernel capabilities such as LXC containers, capability jails, etc.
  • Experience with container hosting environments, platforms as a service or clustering technology such as Docker, Cloud Foundry, Apache Mesos, etc.
  • Experience with LAMP hosting architecture (Varnish, Apache, Nginx, etc.)
  • Experience with Apache and Zend module development
  • Go (golang) programming experience
  • Contributor (developer) to Open Source projects a plus
